Acidified Food SID / Low-Acid Canned Food (LACF) SID Registration
Acidified Foods (such as pickled vegetables or sauces with added acids) and Low-Acid Canned Foods (LACF) (such as canned soups, vegetables, and seafood) are subject to special FDA regulations due to the risk of botulism and other foodborne illnesses.
Before marketing these products in the U.S., manufacturers must register their food processing facility and submit a Process Filing (SID) to the FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN). Each unique product, container size, and thermal process must have its own Submission Identifier (SID).
